Four Buildings with Falcon Waterfree Urinals Win Prestigious TOBY Awards

Dec. 05, 2011

Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Los Angeles, CA. – December 5, 2011 — Falcon Waterfree Technologies is pleased to announce that four buildings with Falcon Waterfree Urinals have won The Outstanding Building of the Year (“TOBY”) Award.

The Outstanding Building of the Year “TOBY” Awards Program has been identified as the most prestigious of its kind in the commercial real estate industry. The award recognizes quality and awards excellence in the daily management of the office buildings.

The Edison Award was given to the Pacific Corporate Towers in El Segundo, CA. The Southern California Edison Energy Management award recognizes achievement of excellence in property management through the effective implementation of energy efficiency, demand response and greenhouse gas reduction programs. Falcon Waterfree Urinals are exclusively found throughout the Pacific Corporate Towers and each Falcon Waterfree Urinal saves an average of 40,000 gallons of treated, fresh water each year. That is the equivalent of nearly nine full tanker trucks of water that could be used for more essential purposes. Additionally, with Falcon technology, water does not have to be pumped to or from the urinal. This significant energy savings dramatically reduces carbon dioxide emissions – emissions that contribute to global warming. Each Falcon Waterfree Urinal saves up to 720 pounds of CO2 per year.

3415 South Sepulveda Boulevard won the TOBY Award for buildings between 100,000-249,999 square feet. Sepulveda Center, a 178,157 square foot, 12 floor asset, has been repositioned with the Best In Class level of service and state of the art building equipment, including Falcon Waterfree Urinals. Located right off the 405 freeway, this polished landmark building has a dedicated team committed to providing its tenants with exceptional service and maintaining a Class A business environment.

The TOBY Award for buildings with 500,000-1 million square feet went to Watt Plaza in Los Angeles. Watt Plaza is a twin 23-story office tower complex consisting of approximately 900,000 square feet, including an amenity-rich 36,000 square foot retail corridor adjoining the complex on the ground floor.

The Gas Company Tower in Los Angeles won the TOBY Award for buildings with over 1 million square feet. Built in 1991, the Gas Company Tower is a LEED Gold Certified, Class A office building. Soaring 54 stories on Fifth Street between Grand Avenue and Olive Street, the property was the second tower in the Los Angeles Central Library Redevelopment Plan. Falcon Waterfree Urinals promote the water conservation goals of the LEED Green Building Rating System. Up to 13% of the points required for LEED-EBOM certification can be earned by retrofitting existing urinals with Falcon Waterfree Urinals.

The Los Angeles Staples Center Enjoys the Varied Benefits of Falcon Waterfree Urinals

Nov. 23, 2011

Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Los Angeles Staples Center Enjoys the Varied Benefits of Falcon Waterfree Urinals

Los Angeles, CA. – November 22, 2011 – The Staples Center, back-to-back recipients of the prestigious Pollstar-CIC Arena of the Year award, has clearly established itself as the sports and entertainment center of the world. As the home of four professional sports franchises (the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Spark) the building is used a lot. Since its construction in 1999, the Staples Center has focused heavily on sustainability and environmentally conscious initiatives.

In 2005, facility executives were looking for ways to reduce water consumption, particularly when the arena couldn’t avoid the 100,000 gallons of water necessary to make a sheet of ice for every Kings game.

“Our water usage was extensive,” says Samuel Kropp, vice president of operations at the Staples Center. “We thought that if we could lower that consumption [with waterless urinals], we wanted to participate.”

By the end of 2005, facility executives elected to test Falcon Waterfree Urinals in six of the heaviest used restrooms. Kropp and other executives were initially skeptical of the bold budget saving claims of Falcon Waterfree Urinals. However, the test went well and Kropp was convinced. By December of 2007, Falcon Waterfree Urinals were exclusively featured in the 40 men’s restrooms throughout Staples Center. All 178 one-gallon per flush urinals were replaced with 178 Falcon zero-gallons per use urinals. And with more than 250 annual events that attract nearly 4 million visitors, the switch has saved roughly 7 million gallons of fresh water a year since implementation.

In addition to helping the environment, the Falcon Waterfree Urinals have also saved Staples center from growing utility costs and reduced additional operating costs associated with traditional flush urinals.

“Our water bill has gone down consistently since implementing the urinals,” Kropp says. “We see roughly $3,300 in utility savings every month, not factoring in sewer charges.” Kropp has seen savings in the form of reduced maintenance and labor expenses as well. “These urinals are quicker and easier to clean. Most importantly, though, we don’t get stoppages or the vandalism we have seen in the past. People would throw things in the urinals and try to flush them. We don’t have that problem anymore.”

The Staples Center executives have been happy with their decision to convert all of their urinals to Falcon Waterfree. It was a positive decision for both the environment and the facility’s bottom line.

“These urinals are clean, sanitary and good for the environment,” Kropp says. “Plus, we get some great feedback from the employees and visitors.”

“We are proud the Staples Center chose to install our urinals and thrilled to help the facility in its environmental and cost saving initiatives,” said Marc Nathanson, Chairman and CEO of Falcon.

Jamison Services Installs Hundreds of Falcon Waterfree Urinals in California Class-A Office Buildings to Upgrade and Improve Restrooms

Mar. 05, 2010

Los Angeles, CA – Jamison Services, one of the top commercial property management firms in California, has joined a rapidly expanding list of building owners and managers with tens of millions of square feet of Class-A office space across the country that have selected Falcon Waterfree urinals. As facility managers across the globe stage head-to-head sustainability competitions, as Jamison did, to weigh options for water efficiency, hygiene, and total cost savings, Falcon Waterfree continues to win and has become the gold standard by which all urinals are measured.

Businesses and institutions such as Bank of America, Cisco, Century Plaza Towers, Adobe, Watt Plaza and now Jamison have adopted the patented technology of Falcon Waterfree urinals to deliver triple bottom line results: the water conservation and cost reduction contribute to environmental and cost reduction objectives, while superior hygiene and odor-free operation of Falcon Waterfree urinals contribute to healthier work environments.

“For the past 3 years, we’ve investigated all options for retrofitting our existing urinals, from 1/8 gallon flushing urinals to all available brands of non-water urinals,” explained Jeff Jorgenson, Chief Engineer at Jamison Services. “For our 35 buildings in the greater LA area, totaling over 5 million square feet and over 400 existing urinals, we are satisfied with our selection of Falcon. Not only for the tens of millions of gallons of water saved each year, but because they perform as promised. This includes lowest operating costs, elimination of plumbing emergencies, and odor-free operation.”

Acceptance by building tenants was also a key factor, according to Jorgenson. With tenants that include medical, law, government, and other business professionals, Jamison found acceptance of waterfree urinals to be quick and positive.

More than 180,000 Falcon Waterfree urinals have been installed to date, saving an estimated 7.2 billion gallons of fresh water and 64,800 tons of CO2 emissions per year, savings that have dramatically increased due to wide-spread urinal retrofits such as those in California commercial office buildings managed by Jamison.

The Halftime Flush Goes “Hush” – The Legend of the Halftime Flush is Silenced by Waterfree “Urinal of Champions”

Dec. 28, 2009

Los Angeles, CA – As restroom traffic kicks into overdrive during championship bowl games, water departments may find themselves waiting for a halftime surge that will never happen. The legendary halftime flush has been silenced at The Rose Bowl Stadium and Land Shark Stadium (host of Super Bowl XLIV), by hundreds of ‘conservation bowls,’ otherwise known as waterfree urinals.

The Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena will host the 96th Rose Bowl Game on January 1 and the BCS National Championship on January 7, and not a single urinal will flush, thanks to the fact that all the state-of-the-art urinals operate without requiring any water. According to Jess Waiters, Chief Operations Office of The Rose Bowl Stadium, the Falcon Waterfree urinals were installed eight years ago in response to drought conditions that have not yet relented. “The waterfree urinals save hundreds of thousands of gallons of water and we prefer that water be used for better causes in our very dry community.”

Super Bowl XLIV returns to Miami on February 7, and while the name of the stadium has changed to Land Shark Stadium, the 220 Falcon Waterfree urinals will take on their second Super Bowl. To put the water savings into perspective, a keg of beer contains 15 gallons and the water savings resulting from waterfree urinals at these three upcoming bowl games alone is enough to fill 13,120 kegs. If stacked, the kegs would reach 20-times higher than the Empire State Building.

Saving water is only one of the benefits of waterfree urinals, according to Waiters. The waterfree urinals operate without any mechanical components, which means that repairing leaking valves is a thing of the past. Without water there are no flush plumes, resulting in more hygienic restrooms. By saving a lot of water and scoring extra points with fans and maintenance crews, Falcon Waterfree urinals have earned the nickname of “Urinal of Champions.” Other major sports venues that utilize the waterfree, odor free, maintenance free urinals include Los Angeles Dodger Stadium, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Staples Center in Los Angeles, and the “Big House” at the University of Michigan.
