Waterless Urinal Leader Partners With LifeChange to Promote Water Crisis

Jul. 24, 2012

LOS ANGELES, July 24, 2012 – Falcon Waterfree Technologies has partnered with LifeCHANGE Leadership Programs (co-created by Days of our Lives actress, Arianne Zucker) and the nonprofit, The Thirst Project, to sponsor an episodic internet broadcast that brings awareness to the clean water crisis. As a part of the project that was filmed in Africa, Falcon recently installed the first series of waterfree urinals in a business facility in Johannesburg which is anticipated to save up to 80,000 gallons of water a year.
“Waterless urinals are perfect for our project because they save the most important resource that many South Africans lack – water. We’re excited to partner with Falcon to bring a positive change to a community where these urinals can make a real difference in their lives,” said Zucker of LifeCHANGE.
In June, LifeCHANGE travelled to South Africa where it worked in collaboration with Africa Rising, an organization founded by Ndaba Mandela and Kweku Mandela Amuah, the grandsons of Nobel Peace Prize Winner Nelson Mandela, to enroll two young adults from the US and two young adults from South Africa in their leadership program. The participants travelled to Swaziland, where The Thirst Project is based, to learn more about the problem of access to clean water, how it affects the population and how the charity is addressing the issue.
Falcon already distributes its waterless urinals in Africa through The Good Earth, a local distributor, and their participation helps bring attention to the issue of clean water access in the most impoverished parts of South Africa.
“It was a natural fit for us – our products save water and these are communities where water is precious. It’s a great cause for which we as a company feel very strongly,” said Marc Nathanson, Falcon’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
The show is scheduled to be streamed on its website: www.officiallifechange.com

MOCA Installs Falcon Waterless Urinals For Free

Jun. 13, 2012

The Museum of Contemporary Art is the latest Los Angeles institution that recently joined the ranks of the Hollywood Bowl and Staples Center to install waterless urinals made by Falcon Waterfree Technologies.

“Waterless urinals are quickly becoming the standard and we wanted to offer our visitors the best system out there that’s easy, clean and as a bonus, conserves water and benefits the planet,” Michael G. Nauyok, Director of Operations at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

With these major public landmarks adopting waterless urinals, the products’ advantages are clear. They have a minimalist simplicity to their look and facilities managers say they are easy to maintain. Each urinal also saves 40,000 gallons of water annually. This translates to about 560,000 gallons of water saved a year for MOCA alone, which installed 14 urinals total in its two locations.MOCA was able to install the urinals for free as part of a rebate program called Save Water, Save a Buck funded by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and LA Department of Water and Power.

MOCA is only the latest institution to adopt waterless urinals that are already prevalent in key LA venues.

Take Staples Center, home of the Lakers and a sporting and concert venue serving more than 4,000,000 guests annually, for example. By installing 186 Falcon waterfree urinals, it saves approximately 9 million gallons of water annually. The Staples Center also boasts an 81 ton reduction of its carbon dioxide output a year, which, in turn, bodes well for California’s eco-conscious audience.

Falcon waterfree urinals also have academic experts’ seal of approval.

“Waterless urinals do not represent any increased health risk when compared with conventional automatic flush urinals and are clearly superior to manual flush urinals. Furthermore, waterless urinals may reduce the risk of bacterial and viral exposure. They are clearly more economical to install and maintain and save considerable water and are therefore better for our environment,” said Edward L. Schnieder, a Professor of Medicine at the University of Southern California’s Keck School.

Other national landmarks featuring Falcon’s urinals include the World of Coke building in Atlanta, Georgia and the Heifer International building in Little Rock, Arkansas. Corporations such as Adobe Systems in San Jose and Bank of America in New York have also installed Falcon’s waterless urinals. Globally, Falcon’s waterless urinals can be found in many historical landmarks such as India’s Taj Mahal and the Olympic Stadium in Beijing, China.

Lawsuit Seeks to Stop Sales of Non-Compliant, Potentially Hazardous “Green Cartridge”

Lawsuit Seeks to Stop Sales of Non-Compliant, Potentially Hazardous “Green Cartridge” from LiquidBreaker

Los Angeles, CA. – June 6, 2012 – Falcon Waterfree Technologies, LLC – the world’s largest manufacturer of waterless urinals – has commenced legal action against the ‘Green Cartridge’ from LiquidBreaker LLC. Falcon believes that LiquidBreaker’s ‘Green Cartridge’ puts customers and the public at multiple risks due to non-compliance with plumbing code requirements. Falcon’s lawsuit, filed in California Superior Court, seeks an injunction and damages based upon LiquidBreaker’s deceptive practices in marketing its ‘Green Cartridge’ for use in Falcon® and Falcon-licensed waterless urinals.

Falcon Waterfree® urinal cartridges are certified to comply with the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), and National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC). While Falcon’s patented cartridges are certified by IAPMO as being UPC compliant, IAPMO representatives have confirmed in writing that LiquidBreaker’s ‘Green Cartridge’ simply is not UPC compliant.

LiquidBreaker designed its ‘Green Cartridge’ to fit into the proprietary cartridge housings of Falcon and Falcon-licensed waterless urinals. The ‘Green Cartridge’, however, lacks a two inch (2”) liquid trap design, which is required by plumbing codes. As such, the ‘Green Cartridge’ is non-compliant with the UPC and other plumbing codes. Use of the ‘Green Cartridge’ in a Falcon urinal system renders the urinal system non-compliant with plumbing codes.

“LiquidBreaker markets its cartridges as safe and suitable replacement cartridges for Falcon-branded and Falcon-licensed waterless urinals, but the ‘Green Cartridge’ violates plumbing code requirements designed to protect the public health,” said Matt Korcinsky, COO of Falcon. “As part of Falcon’s commitment to its customers, Falcon is actively pursuing litigation and regulatory enforcement mechanisms against these non-compliant cartridges which violate plumbing codes that seek to prevent public health and safety risks.”

“Use of non-compliant cartridges like LiquidBreaker’s ‘Green Cartridge’ also immediately invalidates our product warranty coverage and may impair a customer’s insurance coverage, depending upon policy language,” Korcinsky noted. “Facility owners and managers should be alert to these multiple potential risks associated with using Liquidbreaker’s ‘Green Cartridge’.”

Falcon Waterfree Technologies Receives Presidential “E” Star Award For Exports

May. 18, 2012

Falcon Waterfree Technologies was awarded the Presidential “E” Star Award for Exports by U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary John Bryson at the White House in Washington, D.C. on May 16, 2012. The “E” Star Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.

“Falcon is honored to receive the “E” Star Award and wishes to congratulate the other winners as well,” said Marc Nathanson, Chairman and CEO of Falcon Waterfree Technologies. “Our company is committed to increasing its presence in the global market in order to achieve our goal of increasing international export sales that are good for the planet.” Falcon Waterfree Technologies, located in Los Angeles, California, manufactures and markets advanced waterless urinal technology for commercial, institutional, and government facilities.

“I am pleased to recognize Falcon Waterfree Technologies for receiving the President’s “E” Star Award, which honors companies that make significant contributions toward increasing U.S. exports,” said U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson. “This Administration is committed to leveling the playing field for American businesses and workers to help U.S. companies build things here and sell them around the world. “E” Star Award winners like Falcon Waterfree Technologies have excelled in this effort, demonstrating four years of successive export growth. It is companies like this that are helping to grow our economy and put more Americans back to work.”

A business client of the Department’s U.S. Commercial Service, Falcon Waterfree Technologies has benefited from export counseling, trade shows, market research, and business matchmaking to greatly expand its export sales. The company conducts business in over 50 countries and is committed to its goal of increasing international export sales. Falcon Waterfree Technologies demonstrated a substantial increase in the volume of exports over a four-year period, which is a major criteria for the award.

U.S. companies are nominated for the “E” Star Awards through the U.S. Commercial Service office network in 108 U.S. cities and more than 75 countries which helps U.S. companies export. The primary criterion for the “E” Star Award is four years of successive export growth or of supporting the export growth of others. “E” Star Awards are awarded to applicants that can demonstrate a significant contribution to U.S. export expansion that is measurable, innovative, sustainable, and has broad impact. All nominations are reviewed by the “E” Star Award Committee, which is chaired by the Department of Commerce, and includes representatives of ExIm Bank, the Small Business Administration, and the Departments of Agriculture, Labor, State, and Transportation.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first presentation of the President’s “E” Award by President John F. Kennedy. The President’s “E” Award was created by Executive Order in 1961 to encourage U.S. companies to sell their products abroad. A second award, the President’s “E Star” Award, was authorized by the Secretary of Commerce in 1969 to recognize “E” Award recipients for their continuing significant contributions to U.S. export expansion. A total of 41 U.S. companies and organizations were presented with the “E” Award at the May 17, 2012 World Trade Week ceremonies in Washington DC.

Falcon Waterfree Technologies Supports International World Water Day

Mar. 22, 2012

An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. International World Water Day now is held annually on 22 of March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

Water is unquestionably the most important substance in our lives. Without water, life would not exist. It is a prerequisite for all human and economic development. Yet today, nearly one billion people – about one in eight – lack access to clean water. More than twice that many, 2.5 billion people, don’t have access to a toilet.

There has been significant public attention paid to the issue of water scarcity lately, and for good reason. Although water is a renewable resource, it is also a finite one. Only 2.53 percent of earth’s water is fresh, and some two-thirds of that is locked up in glaciers and permanent snow cover.*

Roughly five percent of the world’s fresh water is used to carry away urine. On average each Falcon Waterfree Urinal saves 40,000 gallons (151,000 liters) or more of fresh water per year. With over 350,000 Falcon Urinals installed throughout the world, Falcon Waterfree Technologies directly saves approximately 14 Billion gallons of water each year.

“We are proud of our Company’s contributions to combatting the world’s water scarcity epidemic,” said Marc Nathanson, Chairman and CEO of Falcon. “We can no longer take fresh water for granted and we must protect our water supply from being unnecessarily wasted. There is absolutely no reason to waste precious water by flushing a urinal. We hope facility owners will do their part and install waterfree urinals as the global community comes together today to focus on water issues.”

Changshui International Airport Selects Falcon Waterfree Urinals

Mar. 21, 2012

Changshui International Airport Selects Falcon Waterfree Urinals

Falcon Waterfree Technologies is pleased to announce that Changshui International Airport has installed Falcon Urinals throughout the new airport.

Kunming Wujiaba International Airport (KMG), the gateway to Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, was the seventh busiest airport in China in 2010. Amid rising demand and capacity constraints, Kunming is nearing completion on the $3.8 billion replacement, Kunming Changshui International Airport, which is scheduled to be open on June 28, 2012. The new airport, featuring 330 Falcon Urinals, will become the fourth largest aviation hub in China.

Currently China’s largest airport project, Changshui International Airport is located 30 kilometers northeast of downtown Kunming and is expected to be a key driver of Kunming’s short- and mid-term development. In addition to expanded domestic flight services, the airport is expected to further internationalize the city with direct links to Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia and possibly Australia and the Americas. Initial capacity at the new airport includes a maximum annual throughput of 38 million passengers and 950,000 tons of cargo. It will also be able to handle 303,000 flights per year.

“We are proud to be installed in China’s first green airport. We look forward to helping the facility in its environmental and cost saving initiatives and continuing to grow Falcon’s business in China,” said Marc Nathanson, Chairman and CEO of Falcon. “These 330 Falcon Urinals will help save approximately 13.2 million gallons of water every year.”

Jan. 12, 2012

Los Angeles, CA. – January 12, 2012 – Falcon Waterfree Technologies is pleased to announce winning the Artemis Project Top 50 Competition.

The mission of the Artemis Project Top 50 Competition is to identify the most promising advanced water technology companies worldwide and to support their entry into the full scale of their markets. The Top 50 listing provides proof that there is a critical mass of innovative advanced water technology products available in the market today that dramatically improve water resources management.
