Metropolitan Board Approves Nation’s Largest Conservation Program to Meet Unprecedented Drought Demand

Los Angeles, California May 26, 2015

MWD board boosts district conservation budget to record $450 million
Facing an unprecedented drought, the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California today approved the nation’s largest turf removal and water conservation program
that over the next decade is expected to generate enough water savings to nearly fill the region’s
largest reservoir—Diamond Valley Lake.

The significant expansion of the turf removal component is expected to remove about
175 million square feet of lawn, more than triple Gov. Jerry Brown’s goal for the entire state. The
conversion is projected to save about 80 million gallons of water a day for Southern California, or
enough water for 160,000 households.

Metropolitan’s board at a special meeting added $350 million to the district’s conservation
budget to a new total of $450 million over two years. Together with local rebate programs of more
than $50 million, the total regional investment will be more than half a billion dollars and using
existing revenues will be done without impacting water rates.

Along with the conservation budget increase, Metropolitan’s board also modified the
agency’s turf removal program to ensure rebates continue to be available to homeowners, businesses
and public agencies throughout the Southland during the drought. Program changes establish rebate
tiers based on the amount of turf being removed, with the intent of reaching as many residents and
businesses as possible.

“Our goal is to equitably provide rebate funds to as many people as possible and lock-in
permanent changes in water use by transforming to drought-tolerant landscapes that better fit our
Mediterranean climate,” said Metropolitan board Chairman Randy Record. “Today’s action finds the
sweet spot between capitalizing on historic interest in turf removal and having a sustainable
conservation rebate program.”
more

Metropolitan General Manager Jeffrey Kightlinger said today’s program changes will allow
more households throughout the region to access funding, reaching up to more than 400,000
consumers. “Already more than one-third of applicants are from disadvantaged communities,”
Kightlinger said. “In addition, funding will be specifically set aside for water efficient devices to
ensure customers who live in multifamily housing and represent about half of Southern Californians
also will have access to rebates.”

With the extraordinary level of public awareness and participation, Metropolitan has paid out
more than $88 million of the $100 million in its previous conservation budget. However, public
interest in water-saving rebates, primarily turf removal incentives, continues to set records. Earlier
this month, Metropolitan reached a new weekly record of $49 million for conservation rebate
reservations.

Today, Metropolitan’s turf removal program currently has requests for more than 100 million
square feet, the equivalent of about 60,000 front yards. Since Gov. Brown’s April 1 executive order
to reduce statewide residential water use by 25 percent, monthly applications have increased 20-fold
to up to 10,000 applications.

“Removing turf secures long-term water saving benefits as more people turn to California
Friendly® landscapes. This will help the region greatly in future droughts as more and more
Californians replace turf that serves no function,” Kightlinger said.

“Although Gov. Brown has called on Californians to remove 50 million square-feet of turf in
this drought, our region alone will easily more than triple his goal,” he added.
Under changes to the turf program, residential customers can receive $2 per square foot for up
to 3,000 square feet of turf removed or as much as $6,000. About 90 percent of residential rebate
requests are for less than 3,000 square feet. Many local agencies provide additional incentives that
can increase the funds available to homeowners.

Public agencies are eligible for an incentive of $2 per square foot for the first 3,000 square
feet and $1 per square foot of turf removed above that, up to a total annual limit of $50,000 per
property. Commercial and other non-residential applicants are eligible for a turf removal incentive of
$1 per square foot up to a total annual limit of $25,000 per property. About 85 percent of commercial
applications are for 25,000 square-feet or less.

Kightlinger said the district will direct funds from higher-than-expected water sales during the
four-year drought toward the conservation program while maintaining all its targets for maintaining
financial reserves and underwriting some capital needs on a pay-as-you-go basis.
“As a result, no long-term rate impact is expected from investing this temporary increase in
revenues into long-term water savings. This is a historic one-time investment in conservation as
opposed to a new long-term spending initiative that would have rate impacts,” he said.
To keep pace with the unparalleled public demand, Kightlinger said additional actions may be
necessary, including more modifications to the turf removal program.
“We generally attempt to use rebate programs to influence consumer decisions when an
outside financial incentive seems necessary. The explosion in consumer interest in the turf removal
suggests that the future market may need less of a rebate incentive than before, which is very good
news for our region’s future water picture,” Kightlinger said.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million
people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies,
and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.

Falcon Gives Back Locally for Earth Day 2015

Falcon supports local community groups by hosting pop-up park in honor of Earth Day on April 25

LOS ANGELES – April 22, 2015 – Falcon Waterfree Technologies is pleased to announce it is sponsoring an upcoming Free Lots Angeles pop-up park, through the work of Kounkuey Design Initiative, a core member of Free Lots Angeles. The group will transform a vacant lot located on Central Avenue and 41st Street into a thriving community hub. The one-day only pop-up park will be hosted a few days after Earth Day on April 25, 2015 and will feature adult and kids workshops, art installations, a Zumba class, live music and more from 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

“As a Los Angeles based company, we are focused on giving back locally and hope that this one-day park has a chance to become a permanent fixture for the community,” said Falcon Waterfree Technologies CEO Simon Davis. “Free Lots Angeles and KDI’s mission to improve underserved communities is commendable and we are honored to be part of it.”

Low-income communities in the City of Los Angeles lack access to green space amenities while hosting a vast network (over 7,500 miles) of streets and a surplus of city-owned, vacant parcels of land. Such spaces attract illegal dumping and other criminal activity, are blemishes on a neighborhood’s appearance, and deplete the positive self-image of communities.

Free Lots Angeles, made up of six Los Angeles based non-profit organizations in partnership with The 9th,Council District, The Mayor’s Great Streets Initiative and its primary funder, CA Endowment: Building Healthy Communities, noticed the excess of vacant land and the community’s desire to do something about it. By working hand-in-hand with the local community, this collaborative is helping to build a permanent space that fits the needs of the local residents and shows that parks do not have to be costly. Each Free Lots Angeles activation is the first step in a vacant lot’s permanent transformation process. The ultimate goals of Free Lots Angeles are to enable long-term transformation of vacant lots for community benefit, in the most resource-poor parts of Los Angeles, and to advocate for the policy change needed to make the transformation process feasible and more efficient.

The Central Avenue Free Lots Angeles activation will provide recreation, performances, art-making, learning, and civic engagement activities throughout the day in a transformed and beautiful environment. The one-day park is located on Central Avenue and 41st Street in Los Angeles and will be available 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m.  The park and its activities are free to attend and guests can RSVP on Free Lots Angeles Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1036967489663858/.

Falcon Celebrates World Water Day with Local Non-Profit the Do Good Bus

FALCON WATERFREE TECHNOLOGIES RIDES WITH THE DO GOOD BUS TO CELEBRATE WORLD WATER DAY

Los Angeles, California: March 22, 2015

About World Water Day:

World Water Day (WWD) is an annual celebration of our most important resource, and a time to reflect on the water-related challenges we still face in our communities all over the world. The problems may change according to the region, however it all boils down to our relationship with water. This year’s theme was “Water and Sustainable Development.” Water is central to health, nature, urbanization, industry, energy, food, and equality. Since we need all these things, the discussion falls on how we can maintain a sustainable practice.

 About Do Good Bus:

Los Angeles-based non-profit, Do Good Bus is an organization that promises altruistic adventurism by bringing people together to help local causes in a fun and social environment. They round up a group of people and drive them to an unknown location where the goal is to get to know and help a cause. The mystery of the ride makes things fun and avoids any pre-conceived ideas or opinions, allowing volunteers to show up with an open mind. And, most importantly, ready to help! With goals like awareness, creating community and developing continued support, the organization creates new bonds and strengthen existing ones through unique team building with a “do good” twist.

The event:

Being a B Corp means more than just striving for environmental savings. Water savings is the core of our products, however we also strive to work towards a better world where people give their time to help others. That is when the Do Good Bus comes in the picture. “As a team we wanted to come together to celebrate World Water Day by giving back to our community and helping conserve the environment. The Do Good Bus was a natural fit, since they are a local non-profit that brings people together to help causes in a fun and social environment,” stated Simon A. Davis, President & CEO of Falcon Waterfree Technologies.

Our ride took us to a local Los Angeles beach, where our team worked together to clean up debris on the shore. After a fun day building community and helping others, we left feeling accomplished, informed about the cause and happy to help out our local community.

Falcon Waterfree Technologies enlists PGA Tour Golfer Jason Gore to help spread water conservation message

Leading water conservation company to sponsor California native on PGA tour to raise awareness for water savings

LOS ANGELES – Feb. 3, 2015 – As a new and innovative way to spread its message about water conservation efforts, Falcon Waterfree Technologies is pleased to announce that it will sponsor PGA Tour Golfer Jason Gore on the 2015 PGA Tour. In support of the sponsorship, Jason will be posting on social media to raise awareness for Falcon and rebate programs that are available for golf courses to take the next step in water conservation, especially on the West Coast Swing of the tour. While golf courses have made significant improvements to their water efficiency on the fairways, they have overlooked one of the most wasteful uses of water: the restroom.

A California native and resident of Valencia, Jason knows all-to-well the effects of a multi-year drought can have on the state and that everyone has to do their part to help stop it. As part of the partnership between Jason and Falcon, he will be raising awareness for water conservation efforts on his Twitter page (http://www.twitter.com/JasonGore59) and in media interviews. Jason will also be wearing the Falcon logo on his polo sleeve during and after play.

“Golf courses get a bad reputation, sometimes deservedly so, when it comes to water usage and while they’ve come a long way in the last 10 years, there are still important steps for them to take to finish the job,” said Jason Gore. “Making the switch to waterfree urinals is a very small undertaking with unlimited savings potential.”

The biggest waste of fresh water is found in the place that we spend as little as time in as possible, the bathroom. By installing water-efficient or waterfree urinals, California golf courses can save up to 40,000 gallons of water per year/per urinal. If every one of the 1,100 golf courses in California installed just two waterfree urinals in their bathrooms, they could save a combined 88,000,000 gallons of water a year. With an immediate savings on water, clubhouses and restaurants will see a reduction in their water bill the very next month.  Some golf courses have already installed waterfree urinals; Riviera Country Club, Los Angeles Country Club, Hillcrest Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club have all installed Falcon Waterfree and are seeing immediate water savings.

“As a global company with California roots, we jumped at the chance to work with Jason to help raise awareness for our efforts,” said Falcon Waterfree CEO Simon Davis. “We are always looking at new, fun ways to reach important market segments and Jason will help to ensure we get our message out there. We look forward to a long relationship and we are convinced he will win on the course and we will win off the course.”

Many local water utilities across the state, including in Los Angeles & San Francisco, are offering rebate programs that can cover the entire purchase and installation of the waterless urinal. Thanks to a $20 million rebate program with Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, Los Angeles area golf courses can receive up to $500 for the purchase and installation of each fixture that covers the entire cost in most cases. There is no limit to how many rebates can be redeemed per location so a restaurant can receive all new fixtures for both men and women’s bathrooms at no cost. Installation can be done in as little as one hour so that bathrooms can be up and running as soon as possible.

Jason Gore was a successful junior player and went on to play college golf both the University of Arizona and Pepperdine University. He was a member of the 1997 NCAA Championship Pepperdine Waves golf team. He also won the Pac-10 individual championship during his freshman and sophomore years at the University of Arizona. Jason turned professional in 1997 after the US Amateur. Jason holds the record for most wins in Web.com Tour history and also won the 2005 84 Lumber Classic on the PGA Tour. Jason is now a PGA Tour veteran and in addition to his victories, Jason belongs to an elite group of players who have shot 59 in their careers.

Statement from Falcon Waterfree Technology CEO Simon A. Davis on Delhi’s Ban of Waterfree Urinals

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 3, 2014

The Municipality of Delhi is taking a step away from hygienic, environmentally friendly restroom solutions by wrongfully mandating the removal of waterless urinal technology.  It fails to acknowledge the obvious health and cost benefits of this technology. The Municipality is blaming the private entities lack of maintenance as the cause for removal, but is neglecting to take responsibility for the fact that they have refused to adhere to the maintenance program contract offered with the purchased urinals.

The Municipality of Delhi has refused to participate in the maintenance program when the urinals were installed several years ago, their urinals have not been properly cleaned or cared for in years and are not functioning properly as a result.  Instead of banning a technology responsible for better hygiene and the savings of water, energy and greenhouse gases, the city should invest in the proper Arimidex 1mg.

Waterless urinal technology has saved over 20 Billion Gallons of water in the last decade, and with the proper maintenance and cleaning practices offers a more hygienic restroom solution with up to 5 times less bacteria than traditional flushing urinals.  As with any other technology, waterless urinals are evolving, but without cleaning and maintenance all these innovations- that help make the restroom cleaner while saving precious natural resources- are lost.
